What are the Dangers Of Driving a Clunker?

The very first thing is that they clunk. On turning on the ignition it makes a sound like “chitty chitty bang bang .” this sound would serve as the first clue in identifying a clunker. The second clue that you would get is when you see people driving good cars laughing at the condition of your car. Well you shouldn’t respond to their hand gestures. You need to make sure that you do not confuse the exhaust fumes coming out of your car for a cloud of rain, simply because it is not going to rain. You might break down on the road and we wish it is not the highway to make it worse. Highway is not the place you would want to be stranded on. When the light turns green do see that no part of your car is left behind. The census is:

The old heaps of clunker cars would be replaced by new and more energy efficient cars. The environment would also benefit as there would be low emissions. Even though your financial condition might not be too good to get rid of your old car at this time but the repair and gas costs will tell you that it is better you get rid of the car. It is for your good health and safety that you should consider getting a new and an eco-friendly car. It may act as a stress buster and many benefits will accompany it.

Scrap Car Prices Drop as Steel Prices Fall in June 2013

Decline in Scrap Metal Prices

Scrap metal prices are expected to fall in the month of June and are not likely to recover until July 2013, that will lead to a drop in Scrap Car price possibly. Overproduction of metals is a cause of concern globally. Some layoffs in the industry have been in England. The steel prices in china have declined. Chinese mills will restock steel at lower prices later this year. The iron ore prices would also go down due to this. In us the price of steel is about $ 120 a ton. Scrap metals will follow the same as has been the case.

Steel Making Drops From First Quarter

There has been a drop of about 22% for steel making raw material for the March quarter. It depends on china as it is the biggest buyer of raw materials. India is importing 1 million tons each month of iron ore for this fiscal year. This year the export growth of India may end up in single digits and may end up at 9 million tons as compared to 26 million in 2012.

Sunshine Van-Mellow Yellow

We do not see many such vans today. It was in the movie Little Miss Sunshine that the family called it a yellow bus. I have not noticed such a van on the road for many years now. Only in the movies, so let’s take a look at the vans one more time. You could even put a stereo inside the van with speakers. The van’s interior was covered by carpets. There was a play room for adults. With high gas prices and strict emission standards these vans have also become extinct like the dodo bird. Note: they have not stopped building vans. Today the vans have more accessories with gadgets and better mileage too.

World’s Largest Scrap Car Shedder

The scrap metal is in high demand these days. The largest shedder was built in 2006 in Newport, wales called LYNXS is spread in acres of land and is run by Brits.

How It Works

The chunks of scrap lie along the feeder pipe to the shredding area. Twin rollers are present to prevent clogging. Next what happens is that the spinning hammers take over which are powered by high voltage electric motor that has a direct line to city’s main grid. At the end of the line chunks of metal are taken out. Every hour about 350 tons of metal are processed at the LYNXS shredder. It works like a conventional shredder. All plastics, rubber, carpet and even glass pieces are separated from the metal bits and sent off for separate recycling.

What Next?

South East Asia has the highest demand for scrap be it ferrous or non ferrous scrap or even copper and aluminum. Around 60 percent of the scrap metal reaches South East Asia. The dinosaur shredder exports about 2.5 million tons of scrap every year.

Scrap Car Tires: How to Make Your Tires Last Longer

How long do your new tires last?” , “That is a good question “. Based on the numbers, tires should last 40000 to 80000 kilometers. The quality of the tire is factor on which the longetivity depends along with the care of the tires. If you want your tires to last long you should make sure that they are properly inflated. You can get one of those gadgets and check the tires at least once a month. You may even check the tires every two weeks if you fill them once a month. A half filled or improperly filled tire causes stress on the tire due to which it becomes hot and breaks down. The balance of your car must be right otherwise it will wear on one side. The tire life can be prolonged by 50% just by proper maintenance.

Driving Habits

Driving habits is an important factor that wears down your tires faster. Fast acceleration or sudden braking causes the tires to wear out soon. You may be a careful driver but driving in the city shortens the life span of the tires.

Where Do Old Tires Go?

The worn out tires are sent to the recycling plant for shredding. The resultant obtained is called crumb rubber. Many Scrap Car recyclers do this job and help in removal of tires with rims. The video shows the process of how the crumb is made in a recycling plant.

Scrap car HQ: How To Beat The Drive Clean Tests

The new OBD (On board Diagnosis) for Ontario’s drive clean TEST

Canadians in 2001 were introduced to Drive Clean testing. The revision of drive clean landed in January 2013 to make it even difficult for people to pass the test. The new rule says that any vehicle with the check engine light on will fail. If your (MIL) engine warning light is on then you might have to beware. Seeing a mechanic is a good option before passing on the drive clean test. Each year the Canadian government earns millions of dollars through this.

What’s a malfunction indicator light (MIL) ?

The question is that is the malfunction indicator malfunctioning? If someone wobbles over to his lane my son would slam on the horn on the steering wheel and thus cuts him off .Now the airbag MIL light is on. The airbag and car horn are all in one. One would wonder why they designed it like that. If the airbag light is on or off, it will not make a difference in the exhaust fumes or you’re driving. The mechanic once told me that it was just a malfunction in the wiring and sometimes by just getting new fuses the neon light gets eliminated.

The airbag was fine so no need to worry about that. One of my friends had his brake light on for 4 years and still his car runs fine. There was no mechanical problem whatsoever. What the electronic dashboards indicate is not always the truth. But the question is how do you get rid of that light? The best solution is that you ask a mechanic about it. The new rules state that the engines light must be off to enable it to run on the road. These inspections have been added to the expense of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Public. Electronic world with the air clean test all vehicles older than 1987 are exempted. These vehicles haven’t been computerized. I still feel that there are some such vehicles on the road apart from the classics. The drive clean program cost motorists more than a billion dollars over the past years.

Some other changes

A car which is seven years old is exempt until and unless you are selling your car. You can consider it as a bit less gouging of the tax payer’s money.

Reduce pollution

Reducing pollution does not mean reducing the bank balance.
