The new OBD (On board Diagnosis) for Ontario’s drive clean TEST

Canadians in 2001 were introduced to Drive Clean testing. The revision of drive clean landed in January 2013 to make it even difficult for people to pass the test. The new rule says that any vehicle with the check engine light on will fail. If your (MIL) engine warning light is on then you might have to beware. Seeing a mechanic is a good option before passing on the drive clean test. Each year the Canadian government earns millions of dollars through this.

What’s a malfunction indicator light (MIL) ?

The question is that is the malfunction indicator malfunctioning? If someone wobbles over to his lane my son would slam on the horn on the steering wheel and thus cuts him off .Now the airbag MIL light is on. The airbag and car horn are all in one. One would wonder why they designed it like that. If the airbag light is on or off, it will not make a difference in the exhaust fumes or you’re driving. The mechanic once told me that it was just a malfunction in the wiring and sometimes by just getting new fuses the neon light gets eliminated.

 The airbag was fine so no need to worry about that. One of my friends had his brake light on for 4 years and still his car runs fine. There was no mechanical problem whatsoever. What the electronic dashboards indicate is not always the truth. But the question is how do you get rid of that light? The best solution is that you ask a mechanic about it. The new rules state that the engines light must be off to enable it to run on the road. These inspections have been added to the expense of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Public. Electronic world with the air clean test all vehicles older than 1987 are exempted. These vehicles haven’t been computerized. I still feel that there are some such vehicles on the road apart from the classics. The drive clean program cost motorists more than a billion dollars over the past years.

Some other changes

A car which is seven years old is exempt until and unless you are selling your car. You can consider it as a bit less gouging of the tax payer’s money.

Reducing pollution does not mean reducing the bank balance.
