Decline in Scrap Metal Prices

Scrap metal prices are expected to fall in the month of June and are not likely to recover until July 2013, that will lead to a drop in Scrap Car price possibly. Overproduction of metals is a cause of concern globally. Some layoffs in the industry have been in England. The steel prices in china have declined. Chinese mills will restock steel at lower prices later this year. The iron ore prices would also go down due to this. In us the price of steel is about $ 120 a ton. Steel Making Drops From First Quarter

There has been a drop of about 22% for steel making raw material for the March quarter. It depends on china as it is the biggest buyer of raw materials. India is importing 1 million tons each month of iron ore for this fiscal year. This year the export growth of India may end up in single digits and may end up at 9 million tons as compared to 26 million in 2012.

How It Works

The chunks of scrap lie along the feeder pipe to the shredding area. Twin rollers are present to prevent clogging. Next what happens is that the spinning hammers take over which are powered by high voltage electric motor that has a direct line to city’s main grid. At the end of the line chunks of metal are taken out. Every hour about 350 tons of metal are processed at the LYNXS shredder. It works like a conventional shredder. All plastics, rubber, carpet and even glass pieces are separated from the metal bits and sent off for separate recycling.

 

What Next?

South East Asia has the highest demand for scrap be it ferrous or non ferrous scrap or even copper and aluminum. Around 60 percent of the scrap metal reaches South East Asia. The dinosaur shredder exports about 2.5 million tons of scrap every year.
